About Becky Bellamy

I was born in Belfast in a ‘middle-class’ Protestant family that was unionist with a soft ‘u’. I grew up as the Troubles were coming to an end, and was educated at Methodist College, which was a privileged but diverse school. I worked for a multi-national company and travelled to Dublin regularly with my job. I started to realise from the media that there were two different cultures on the island of Ireland. I now work in the voluntary community sector; and developed a not-for-profit COC called Another World Belfast, and registered Charity Show Some love Ltd with my partner Connor.

Whenever I think of colonialism, I think of things like the royal family, Great Britain in inverted commas, and the unfairness of how basically it, and I suppose other countries did the same, went around the world and stole from them and now are continuing to reap the benefits of that in terms of wealth and world position and are not doing anything to try and bring reparations for that.
